Privacy policy

Musa Cosmetics is a trade name of MARE Distributions Inc., an Ontario corporation ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect through musacosmetics.com and musacosmetics.ca, why we collect it, who we share it with, and your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It is separate from our Terms of Service.

Who is accountable

What we collect

  • Order information: name, shipping and billing address, email, phone number (optional), items purchased and order history.
  • Payment information: processed by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you agreed to receive our emails, and when.
  • Device and browsing information: IP address, browser type, pages viewed and similar data collected through cookies.
  • Messages you send us, including through our website chat and reaction reports.

Why we collect it

To process, deliver and support your order; handle cancellations, returns and product-safety reports; send marketing email only if you opted in; operate and secure the store; understand how the site is used; and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers we need to run the store, who may use it only to provide their services to us:

  • Shopify Inc. (store platform, checkout, website chat, order and marketing emails, and built-in store analytics)
  • Shopify Payments and its card processors (payments)
  • Canada Post and other carriers we use (delivery)

We don't use third-party advertising pixels and we don't sell your personal information. If we add an analytics or advertising tool, we'll update this policy first.

Information stored outside Canada

Some of our providers, including Shopify, store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While there, it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its authorities.

Cookies

We use cookies needed for the cart and checkout, and Shopify's built-in analytics cookies. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings; you can still buy from the store.

How long we keep it

  • Order and tax records: 7 years (Canada Revenue Agency requirement).
  • Marketing consent records: while you're subscribed, plus 3 years.
  • Reaction reports: while the product is sold, plus 3 years.
  • Everything else: deleted when we no longer need it.

Safeguards

Access is limited to the people who need it to run the store, and payments are handled by PCI-compliant processors.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw consent to marketing at any time (every marketing email has an unsubscribe link). Contact our Privacy Officer at hello@musacosmetics.ca. We respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Breaches

If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
